you shouldnt put the butter actually in the pan. just butter the individual pieces of bread.

No, put the butter in a cold pan, and as soon as it melts put the bread on. Gas stove means you want the flame to cover just under half of the bottom of the pan, so like a 4 if you have notches. Even if you don't have enough butter it won't burn, the bread just won't be toasted evenly. The bread should be butter colored when you're done, otherwise you tried cooking it too fast.

No charisma and no skill. Don't butter the bread, or the edges won't brown evenly. Don't cover it, it gets soggy and greasy with anything other than rye bread.. which you shouldn't use on a grilled cheese anyway. And spicy mustard? Wtf?
