Anonymous cant ever be brought down, legit. Its members are unknown, its size is unknown, its location is unknown. It isnt the same people, it is a legion of people who follow the same moral code, it would be like eliminating a religion, it isnt happening. |

| To be fair, you may have used it for legitimate reasons but SO many people used it to upload TV shows, movies, albums, programs, etc. Am I pissed that it's gone? Sure, I loved that site. But am I surprised? Not at all. |

| thats like setting fire to house and not allowing time to get the valuables from inside. its fucked up. the media misses the world they used to live in where everyone was locked into paying their ridec prices. maybe 5 cents a song. a buck fifty for a movie (depending on the imdb rating of course) and maybe a dollar for an educational (that should be free) they get to have revenue again and we arent paying stadium prices for what could possibly be bullshit. music and movies still seem to come out and with the biggest budgets ever (avatar) so obv they dont need 22 bucks per album. |

| How about the people that paid from premium services for legitimate causes? I think they should be refunded and if not I see megaupload going back up before long. The government has proven, no matter how hard it tries, it can NEVER take down Pirate Bay.
A tidbit my teacher brought up that I think is a good point, and since he works in the industry he is for anti pirating, but not in the way the MPAA is. If companies wanted piracy down then they would stop out sourcing the work to china were MOST piracy is started in the first place. Do it in America, create jobs AND be able to monitor where copies of movies go and be able to respond without it being an international crime. So SOPA is a complete failure because that punished America not the people actually piarting.
And if you think for a second its Americans doing a lot of the piracy you are silly. Most torrent movies end up coming out months before the DVD release. Why is that? Because the companies outsourced to make the movies got it in early(obviously, to make the copies) and uploaded it. The way to stop piracy is to stop outsourcing. BOOM. |

If the government is determined enough they can track down the servers and IPs used by the members of Anonymous from their website or even find a way to plant someone into the group to take it out from the inside. Before this week I would have said it wasn't likely, but after they took down MegaUpload, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.
And they're dicks because they don't know when to not cross the line. Before they were the online symbols of freedom and liberty, they were actually a borderline terrorist hacking collective who screwed with people just because they wanted to. Tell me that sending a shitload of useless stuff to someone paid for on that person's credit card or calling that person's home all night making threats towards the person and their family doesn't make them dicks? They will find someone they don't like, and literally ruin their lives whether the person deserved it or not. And they didn't have justification for the PSN. Sony cracked down on jailbreaking software for good reason. People were using that to crack and run games on their system for free, which their third-party developers entrust in them doesn't happen. Games aren't cheap like music and TV episodes, that's a $60 theft per game.
Anonymous even threatened and tried to take down major Wall St. websites on trading days during Occupy Wall St. Do you know how much more damage that would have done to the economy instead of supporting the peaceful call for reform by protestors from across the country that Anonymous thought they'd accomplish through this? Luckily the internet security staffs of these sites stopped the group, saying the attempts were like a bunch of babies trying to take down a giant.
They have their moments, but Anonymous is mostly a bunch of self-righteous dicks who really only care about themselves and their ability to do whatever they want to other people. |

And the American Government isn't?
Oh BTW, hope you didn't buy into media BS, Anonymous didn't take the credit card info, they just had access to it. Didn't use it, except you know, publicly displaying Sony employee's info. Harsh, but it is a legitimate war. You have got to realize it is the 21st century and wars can be done online now. And Sony unrightfully banned users who didnt just Jailbreak the system but used a built it, accessible(without means of hacking) way to log into PSN.
Do not forget this ist he same organization who brought the West Boro Babtist Church to light, Located people who were killing kittens and puppies and posting videos. Brought down the BIGGEST child pornography ring in the world. Has been HELPING the FBI find and locate drug cartels in Mexico who have been abducting US citizens. And I believe they found the location of a missing American girl and the kidnappers over in Europe when the FBI had no leads on what could have happened.
Anonymous works in mysterious ways but always for the greater good of the world. |

Two wrongs don't make a right in my opinion.
I know they didn't take the CC info. I'm a game journalist so I was all over that story. And banning members unfairly shouldn't garner a response the way Anonymous did. I know they mainly did it just to pull down Sony's pants and laugh at them, but it's still not cool to threaten that they have access to the private information of normal people. Nor is it cool to release the private information of employees and leave them to mercy of the merciless. They could have handled it in a much better way.
Anonymous does work in mysterious ways, but that doesn't make everything they do okay. Like I said, they have their good moments, but they're bad moments normally counterbalance them. |

| How does it counterbalance them AT ALL? Is it because you have a hard on for video games you think a video game network being down for a month is REALLY a counterweight to bringing down countless amounts of murderers and rapists? REALLY!?
This is why Batman is such a great hero because while people like him and from our perspective we know he is doing the right thing, there are those who question what he does. That is excatly what is going on right now.
For your info, any telephone death threats that come to random people, etc are usually if not always, random 4chan members who just think they are apart of Anon because they post on a site that alot of Anon members frequent. And the mebers on there are all "Anonymous users" so yeah. Doesnt mean they are actually apart of the efforts. |

| Dude, the PSN shutdown has nothing on the rapes and murders. I'm more talking about the harassment and lack of mercy they show towards their victims (not all of them guilty), however just or unjust it may be. Plus threatening and actually try to, you know, hold the entire world economy hostage.
When Batman goes after the mob, he doesn't go after the innocent wives and kids as well. He also doesn't throw those who give themselves up to the wolves. He hands them over to the authorities and lets the actual system do its thing. He also never does anything that would put normal civilians in harm's way.
Anonymous has its moments where the old saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" rings true. They have good intentions, but sometimes their methods could seriously bring hell upon unsuspecting, innocent victims.
Remember that my original statement wasn't that I hate them or think that they're completely soulless assholes. Just that they have a tendency to be major dicks. |
