I know some of you GBYWNers like film stuff and all that so for those of you who do, you should check out this video, its not amazing but pretty factual and shows you my new camera I got with mixed reactions from people. This video should change the negative reactions I got.

Also even if you hate me, don't disregard the facts in this and my knowledge. I'm trying to save YOU money and point you in the right direction.

DV Tapes are HORRIBLE. Such an annoying thing to deal with. This is actually VERY helpful. Makes me want to consider find one such as that.

Thanks for the info, Pat.

Firstly Patrick, you look like such a chomo teacher with that haircut, mustache, glasses, and flannel. Secondly, thank you soooo much for this. I've always wanted to work with film, whether basic wrestling MVs or even short films and whatnot, and this will totally be helpful in the future.

My only question is what computer you'd recommend that would handle editing in 1080p, because this DELL Latitude isn't gonna cut it.

Thanks guys. I am actually trying to look like my own teacher for a video project I'm doing on Monday then the stache is going. (Serious actor right here...yeah right)

Umm honestly I'm looking into a MAC, its the easiest thing to use for video. Has everything you need up front. Will set you back a few but so will any PC you build for this. I am not a huge mac fan and will keep my PC for internet and other activities but MAC looksl ike the best to go for editing. If you must use a PC then prepare to build one and spend a stressful time building one but if you have the money and know how a custom built PC may be a really good deal.

Watch any behind the scenes thing for movies, they usually edit everything on macs and use adobe software.

My only question for you is that if you have problems with depth of field, the reason I asked this is because I have seen a lot of videos that use a DSLR camera which has great quality but the depth of field seems off. Other than that it seems like you are actually learning things from school which is good to see these days.

It really depends on your lens. I think my 50mm produces an excellent field of depth. It really depends on what you are trying to achieve with the shot. Sometimes a wide angle lens is the best bet for a crazy depth field but most people mis use them and get that fish eye effect which I know is usually desired.

Even if you think the T2i or other cameras in this bracket aren't up to your standards you can get a Canon 5D for $2,500(about the price of a prosumer camera) which shoots picture of that of a $100,000+ camera. In fact George Lucas used them on his latest film, Red Tails and the show House shoots on DSLR so the cameras are pretty legit.

Well I am fine with my camera right now considering that I am just about to finish my gen eds. But I completely agree about the wide angle lens, the best example at least to me is Epic meal time. If you watch some of there older videos there depth of field almost makes it look like its a fish eye.

Looks pretty sharp for 720p(which is still a great quality), what kind is it? I think Flips have pretty impressive quality for there cheap price but they are limited to point and shoot. No manual focus and 0 field of depth. Only complaint is the contrast and brightness levels but thats an opinion. I really prefer the soft and deep contrast of film and actually prefer 24 frames per second to 30 or 60.

I use this for wrestling. It also shoots in 1080 but my memory card is only 4gb so I only have like an hour and 30 mins or something. But its cheap but really awesome.

Honestly for wrestling thats good. If you use those flash memory sticks i do recommend getting a class 10 if you dont have one. Best Buy has them cheap at the moment. The cam is a nice cheap price and it is what it is which is point and shoot.

In sports and other unpredictable events point and shoot cams are best so you never lose focus. Ill have a very hard time shooting wrestling on my cam but I plan to attempt it at least once. I would have never upgraded from a Flip if I didnt want to start shooting actual movies and such. I want to shoot a full length feature by as early as next year.

Yes, those are the best cams out there. If we win this commercial contest we plan on buying a red and renting it out for more profit lol.

I'll have a new video up soon, maybe tonight, also fort he depth question, its all on the lens, the smaller you get, the better the depth, also proper use of wide angles(avopiding fish eye) create amazing depth of field, example.
