I feel like being able to cook (well) for yourself is really achieving a power that most people don't get too. Throughout history, meals are a special time and it brings people together. Being able to cook and enjoy special food is certainly enjoying one of the finer things in life. Whenever I get the chance I'm trying to make something new for myself that honestly is quality food. I have the same outlook on beer, which is why i stick to drinking the good stuff from now on. It's all about quality.

Zeke, you're too much of an intellectual for this site.

I love it.

This topic is actually really interesting for me, because I don't like to cook that much.... but I LOVE to eat, and I'm told that I am quite the excellent cook. I've never really thought about becoming a chef or whatever, but I do work as the second lead line cook at a pretty high class country club restaurant.... so I do kinda know a lot more about cooking than I think most people would. Working there has really done wonders for my cooking, too. I get to try some of the most expensive and rare foods out there, and it's really incredible to me that I have that opportunity now.

I'm probably one of the pickiest eaters I know, so the things I cook are usually really strange to most people.... but I promise you, you do not need lettuce or vegetable of any sort to make a fucking great salad. Haha. I'm a grill master, and I take a lot of pride in the things I cook on the grill. Meat is really important to me and my diet, so I take a lot of pride in my ability to mark and properly cook a steak with little to no seasoning.... but I'm not opposed to going a little overboard with seasonings either.

If you're a meat and potatoes person, then I'm basically your ideal cook... Haha.

I'm disappointed I missed this thread. I'm a boss in the kitchen, don't you doubt it. Homemade croissants; Frenched rack of lamb marinaded in Jameson and Worcestershire and basted with a very light maple glaze; manicotti stuffed with spinach, sweet Italian sausage, and a ricotta and mozzarella filling; pesto stuffed tortellini with pan-seared cantaloupe slices, scallops, and a tomato cream sauce; hazelnut praline semi-freddo with a chocolate ganache base... and that's all in the last month and a half.

I watched practically every new episode of Good Eats prior to 2006. Alton Brown > Bill Nye.

Hate hate hate Guy Fieri. I want to see Anthony Bourdain stab him to death with the stick from a deep fried twinkie.
