Sarah Lavko, 21, of Alsip, was charged Tuesday with reckless homicide and aggravated driving under the influence, both felonies, in connection with a one-car crash Saturday that killed Megan Elam, 18, also of Alsip, Tinley Park police said.
Lavko, of the 11500 block of Keeler Avenue, also was charged with improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, transportation of open alcohol and driving without proof of insurance, police said.
Police said in a news release that the charges were filed Tuesday after consulting with the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.
The crash happened about 11:40 p.m. Saturday in the 6200 block of 183rd Street, police said.
Elam died from injuries received when she was thrown from the car, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.
Three additional passengers remain hospitalized, police said.
The five had attended a concert at the First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, police said.
Lavko was scheduled to have a bond hearing Tuesday afternoon at the Bridgeview Court House, police said.

| I look at it like people are going to do what they want. I don't drink at all, if I or a family member was ever hurt by a drunk driver I'd probably murder them. If they killed someone I cared about deeply, definitely. They themselves would be dead as fuck. |
