PostSubject: Project Beer   Tue Feb 15, 2011 1:43 pm

Okay so, for those who are close you probably know that Jed and I, as well as some of the other BKW dudes have gotten really involved in brewing, craft beers, stuff like that. We're starting a home brew in the spring and we're really excited. Lately, I've been kinda keeping a record of the different beers I've had the pleasure of drinking and I was looking for a way to kinda keep track of this. I found untappd but that is strictly adding beers through your phone which I do not have the capability. Sure a lot of people on this site don't drink, that's fine, i respect this, and right now I don't want to hear from you. Now I'm not looking for shit beers, so take a look at my list and you'll have an idea. Just gimme a solid list of the different beers you've tried upto this point and maybe how you feel about em?

I'll add my feelings soon. I'll also continue to add as I drink more. I'm hoping to provide and gain insight with this so play along! Unless you just drink shit in a can all the time.

Im not original so im going to copy the way zeke did it. Lots easier for me, cause im lazy as tits. Lazy tits.

119 beers so far. gotta drink em all

Blue: Delicious beers
Green: Beers i disliked

Yuenling Lager
Yuengling light
Kingfisher Premium Lager - Tasted like a combination of Lima Beans and Bazooka Bubble gum. Mad gross.
Sapparo Premium - Dissapointed in Japan for this, Very light, no taste.
Tecate Cerveza - Typical light beer, reminded me of party beers like Bud light or Coors light.
Stella Artois
Peroni Premium - Very tasty, very light, i would call it a "food beer" it goes really well with food.
Hoegarden White
Youngs Double Chocolate - Very think, tasted dry and coffee-like, didnt enjoy it at all.
Dos Equis Lager
Guinness Draught - Not a fan, i feel like thats the common census on here though
New Castle Brown Ale
Franziskaner Hefe-Weisse - Gross, tasted like beer and toothpaste. Was on the light side as well. Bad
Spatan Premium - Meh, light in flavor, mehh
Spatan Dunkel - Had it out of a mini keg twice, the second time i wasnt hammered and it tasted like metal.
Spatan Optimator - Wasn't bad, it was high in alcohol content though so it gave it that little sting.
Wells Banana Bread
Breckenridge Avalanche Ale
Breckenridge Lucky-U IPA
Saratoga IPA
Victory Yakima Glory - Dark and Hoppy, bitter, right inbetween light and heavy, i dont like hoppy so this wasnt good to me
Flying Dog Amber Lager - Very tasty, very rich in color too. Definitely enjoyed it
Anchor Steam Beer
Anchor Liberty
Smuttynose IPA - Gross, i dont like IPA's so my opinion is biased, but this tasted like pine needles.
Spanish Peaks Honey Raspberry - 50/50, the honey taste was kind of stale, but the raspberry flavor was delicious.
Ithica Nut Brown Ale
CBC Benchwarmer
Wychwood Hobgoblin
Saranac Seasons Best - Very seasonal, had that little hint of wood flavor. Meh.
Saranac Caramel Porter - Suprisingly good, i didnt think id enjoy it because it was heavy but the caramel aftertaste was really strong and tasty
Butternuts Porkslap - Funniest can, and honestly my favorite pale ale, best ive had so far. Even in a can.
Browns Cherry Raspberry - This was a little too strong in fruityness for me, if you like really fruity try this.
Jacks Pumpkin Ale - Gross, pumpkin flavor was faint and terrible, beer wasn't good.
Abita Purple Haze - One of my favorite fruity beers, Not too strong so its not overwhelming, very good.

Woodchuck Hard Cider
Goose Island Mild Winter - The best winter beer i've had, wasnt too overwhelming in taste, in between dark and light
Goose Island Honker's Ale
Shock Top Belgian White
Kona Longboard Lager - One of my favorite beers to date, has a nice mix of lager/nutty taste that i highly enjoy.
Kona Fire Rock Ale - Pretty good Ale, has nice flavor, didnt live up to expectations from there lager though.
Kona Wailua Wheat - This would have been delicious if i was a bigger fan of passion fruit, the ratio of beer to flavor was almost perfect. I would recommend this if you do.
Longtrail Blackbeary Wheat

Magic Hat #9 - Another one of my favorite beers to date, has a very nice hint of flavor and the beer goes down very smooth. I would recommend this to people who are just starting to try new beers.
Magic Hat Vinyl Spring - Gross, coffee taste, dark and heavy. I didnt understand how it was a lager in any way.
Landshark Lager
Red Hook Eisbock 28 Winter Warmer - Intense, 11% alcohol, pretty heavy as well. Large sting because of the content, wouldnt recommend it.
Longtrail Centenial Red
Goose Island Demolition
Brooklyn Lager - Decent, not a bad lager, had pretty good flavor that wasnt too strong.
Brooklyn Monster Ale - This was high in alcohol content so i didnt expect much in taste, one of the better tasting high alcohol beers ive tried though.
Blue Moon Belgian White
George Killians Irish Red
Harpoon UFO Hefeweizen
Harpoon UFO Raspberry
Harpoon UFO White
Harpoon UFO Pale Ale
Harpoon Leviathon
Fosters
Sam Adams Cherry Wheat - Before it changed a little i loved it, big cherry flavor, recently it changed and isnt as good.
Sam Adams Summer Ale - Didnt like this at all, had a really strong taste, too strong for my liking, but i was young when i tried it, i'd like to try it again and see if anythings changed.
Sam Adams Boston Lager
Sam Adams Black Lager - A little too "Black" for me, had a hint of coffee-ish taste, not bad, not amazing.
Sam Adams Wee-Heavy Scottish Ale - One of the top worst beers ive ever had, dont ever buy it.
Sam Adams/Weihenstephaner Infinium - This tasted like wine, but after a glass i was pretty buzzed, and as i kept drinking it started tasting a lot better.
St. Pauli Girl Lager
Heineken Lager
Dogfishhead 60 Minute IPA - Too strong for me, my least favorite dogfish head for sure.
Dogfishhead Raison D'Entre - This was very good, slight dark flavor with a high alcohol content, drinkable with food.
Dogfishhead World Wide Stout - What can you say about an 18% alcohol content beer? It didnt taste as bad as i expected, and it hit me RIGHT away. i guess im impressed.
Molson Canadian
Molson Golden
Labatte Blue
Labatte Blue Light
Corona Extra
Corona Light
Leinenkugel Summer Wheat - If you like fruitloops, drink this. Probably my top favorite fruity beer.
Becks Import
Rolling Rock Pale Ale
Blue Point Toasted Lager - Pretty good, sounded better than it tasted but i wasnt dissapointed.
Mendocino Eye of the Hawk - Pretty dark, higher in alcohol, not amazing, not bad.
Yuengling Bock Beer - Very good. It was like yuengling, but darker, and stronger flavor.
Goose Island 312 Wheat - Not my favorite but it definitely wasn't a bad wheat beer
Petes Strawberry Blonde - Very good, not too strong, nice strawberry flavor to it.
Birra Moretti Lager - Not as good as peroni, it had a stronger taste to it that i didn't like.
Birra Moretti Double Bock - Darker and stronger than the normal lager, this was too much
Chambly White Ale - Really bad, tasted like lima beans, i recommend never drinking it.
Duvel Belgian Ale - Not good, made me cringe when i tasted it, and its insanely expensive.

Imperial Cerveza - Not bad at all, actually kind of enjoyed it, it had that typical mexican beer taste but it was a little bit darker.
Saranac Irish Red - Not bad, it was meh at the beginning and as i kept drinking it got better, a little bitter.

Rogue Dead Guy Ale - Wasn't bad, had a very strong ale taste to it, had a bittersweet hint as well. Drinkable.
Arrogant Bastard Ale - A little hoppy, but not too overwhelming, dark, not too heavy. Meh.

This thread makes me wish I drank beer... Get me into beer. Suggest some beers to me that I may be able to get down. I'm a total fruity drink guy. I try to not taste the alcohol is most things I drink... I find beer to be bitter and disgusting usually... Let's ease me into this... I can do Sparks and shit.... which is sort of beer-y tasting... Recommend me something.

Alright so not being a beer drinker you aren't going to wanna go crazy with the craft beers. I'm going to send you in the direction of beers that have a fruityness, citrus so that they aren't real "beery" beers, if you know what I'm sayin.

Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat - cleaner and more fresh than the blue moon, same orange, citrus qualities
Blue Moon Belgian White - a lot of orange zest, a bit nutty as well but real quality
UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen - Best fruit beer imo, raspberry tastes delicious

Also, I recommend the ciders which are alcoholic and fruity, not necessarily beer. The Woodchuck, Magner's, and Strongbow, Strongbow being the highest quality.

I hear you guys mentioning Yeungling a lot, and I'm half tempted to attempt to find some... That UFO Raspberry stuff sounds like it might be my first choice. I've had some Guinness before, which at the time wasn't so bad... that little bit of coffee taste was interesting to me... but I ws already REALLY sloshed when I had it, so it may have actually been terrible... haha. Thanks duder. By the time we meet, I will be drinking beer with you.

Woodchuck is the cheapest of the ciders, i did not think it tasted like vomit, but i didnt find it great either.

And what do you mean Tony? Tastes different? Are you compating it to a normal, classic lager? Like same taste? Or do you mean the actual taste of yeungling has changed lately?

The Taste in general. It kind of seems like poor production on the beer. My friend that said it also, all he drinks is Yeungling and he is getting disappointed in it. I thought it tasted different, but I am not the biggest beer fan and then one day he brought it up and I was like oh, I thought i was just fuckign retarded. Apparently not.

PostSubject: Re: Project Beer   Fri Feb 18, 2011 11:25 am

You're probably right. They don't sell yuengling in Massachusetts where I'm at for college so I haven't had it lately. I'm sure you know because you're from PA, but Yuengling is the oldest brewery in America, it's always fought hard against the big brewers like anheuser busch to stay its own entity and independent. Lately many beers are seeing the takeover hit them hard. Idk if you drink Stella or Rolling Rock but both have seen a huge hit in quality once the takeover hit. My idea is that Yuengling is feeling the competition, trying to mass produce even more, and the quality is the thing feeling the effects.

I haven't had it since November so I can't say firsthand. Maybe jed can say when he checks this out.

Even though it's so close to my house, I have never taken the tour. I know people who have and they say it is alright.

I've toured the Sam Adams brewery that was a fun time.
