| The GBYWN Gazette: September 2010 Issue: 2 Published by: Dee Miller
Every month, you can expect news, notes and updates on a portion of the occurrences befalling upon the backyard wrestling world. Any news acquired will be publicized in this brand new issue entitled The GBYWN Gazette.
-Mike Del Challenges Shawn Matthews
EWA’s Mike Del has placed in his challenge towards backyard wrestling sensation and 2KW’s Shawn Matthews for the EWA Elite Tournament on October 16. It has been no secret that the two were previously butting heads with animosity a couple of months ago on the GBYWN boards (though legitimately) and Matthews frequently attending and performing at EWA events since July. With Shawn Matthews accepting the pledge, the fate of the match only relies upon the booking committee of the federation.
-GBYWN Allies with GWC
On Wednesday morning of August 25, GBYWN President Cam discussed with President of the Global Wrestling Circuit (GWC) CJ Lennon on the topics of backyard wrestling and independent wrestling leading to an agreement to ally the Global Backyard Wrestling Nation with the GWC. Factually for years, both alliances have seen eye to eye on different ends of the spectrum. Only now, GWC has recently been taking their product towards an independent pro wrestling focus. Talks have also suggested the contrivance of a Global Independent Wrestling News community for backyard wrestlers who are turning pro or may already be. More on this as it develops.
-BWA/FWA Officially Ends
Bridgeview Wrestling Association (BWA) in conjunction with Freelance Wrestling Alliance (FWA) officially held its very final event BWA/FWA: Our Final Goodbye on September 4. The show hosted 6 matches including the contention of a total of 2 GBYWN championships being the Midwest Heavyweight Championship and the World Pure Championship. The event also highlighted the end of the 2010 backyard wrestling retirement tour for former 2-time GBYWN World Heavyweight Champion, Shooter.
-UWI Hall of Fame & 500
A 12-year backyard veteran with professional training and experience, second generation pedigree, and founder of Frontier Wrestling Federation, Anarchist Productions and NFLKTD Entertainment is putting out the offering on the GBYWN boards to honor the contributions to and of underground wrestling and its best wrestlers with a global project aimed to legitimize underground wrestling entitled Underground Wrestling International Hall of Fame, and UWI 500. Claims are being made that he has been able to do shows nationally, played guest on international radio shows, been on television, performed with NWA champions and members of Pro Wrestling Illustrated 500 but due to professional obligations, chooses not to release full details at this time. Click here for more info.
-GBYWN End Year Awards on Horizon
The year is narrowing down with three months left before closing out 2010 which means as annually conducted, the GBYWN End Year Awards 2010 is around the corner. Nominees will begin to be sought out to execute the nominations as effectively accurate as possible. The decision remains to be torn between voting and judges being the deciding factors to winning ballots. Changes to this year’s awards have been made whereas the Ground Federation and Wrestler of the Year Awards has been removed, the Peep of the Year has been removed for the Forum Poster of the Year Award, the Most Hardcore Wrestler of the Year Award returns since 2007, the Underrated Wrestler and Federation of the Year Awards has been added, the Most Technical Federation of the Year Award removed, the Best Striker and Grappler of the Year Award has been added, Best Seller of the Year, and the Best Stable of the Year Award has been added. The best of contributions to backyard wrestling this year will be recognized late this December.
-GBYWN Promo Challenge 2010 Begins
As of September 1, the GBYWN Promo Challenge has been initiated and will run until its deadline on October 1. The rules of the challenge state that participants are to make a backstage promo video, upload it on YouTube, and post video under the GBYWN Promo Challenge 2010 thread on the boards. The promo will be judged and ranked and there will only be one winner. Click here for full challenge details.
-GBYWN Power 15
A few years ago, the community was ranked by its most popular feature called the GBYWN Power 25, which was ideally similar to that of the Power 25 on WWE.com. Furthermore, it became a conflictive implementation that had only been bound to discontinuation. Recently, it was decided to rekindle the use of the ranking system to chart the best in the backyard but this time however, altering it to Power 15. The GBYWN Power 15 will be updated every month on the website.-GBYWN Wrestler and Video of the WeekAwards for wrestlers and videos at the end of every week has recently been reactivated. The last time awards were issued was in November of 2008 which during the final week given to The Prodigy. The Video of the Week award was also last used around the same time. To view these awards, click here.
-GBYWN Slam of the Week
Every week on GBYWN President Cam’s YouTube channel "kozone5000”, the GBYWN Slam of the Week will be posted showing the most daring and high impact spots that have been seen on the site for that week.
-Huge Call Out: William Black Calls out Marcus Centofante
2KW’s near 11-year veteran William Black has called out multi-year veteran yarder himself Marcus Centofante. No direct plans or arrangements have been confirmed at this time to get the match hosted. With both adept and experienced wrestlers on the rosters of their federations, it would not surprise if this match averaged a Match of the Year candidate spot. The two sides seem to have mutual anticipation to make this confrontation a go. More updates on what could be a blockbuster showdown as it develops.

-What’s in store for October in BYW?
The GBYWN Promo Challenge 2010 will come to a halt on its deadline on October 1. Few are expected to submit their promos in before the date nears.
Bethlehem Xtreme Wrestling (BXW) will see to their third biggest event, Insania 3: Skured? That will be taking place in Allentown Pennsylvania on October 2. The event will capture the active return to the backyard scene of the one and only Mike Damage, whose last wrestled match was performed back in January of this year before merely surviving a tragic car accident. Damage is currently training and preparing himself to make the comeback after months of hanging out at BXW tapings and having only participated in a Cripple Fight with Mike Del at BXW Paul Kunkle Memorial.
A big pro-hosted supershow will be held between backyard federations Xtreme Backyard Wrestling (of Maryland) and Baltimore Elite Wrestling Alliance, as well as two other federations named XMW amd CWA. The event is entitled Best of the Best and will be occurring in Baltimore, Maryland on October 2.
Elite Wrestling Association (EWA) will host their huge annual festivities during the supershow called the Elite Tournament in Avenel, New Jersey on October 16. Last year, Tek won the tournament after advancing through 3 rounds and last defeating his long time arch nemesis, Dr. John Bowes. Mike Del has also called out Shawn Matthews for a match at the event to be featured as part of the tournament line-up. Candlewood BackYard Wrestling (CBYW) as well as REVIVAL has announced the sixth Just Another Supershow event in Mt. Gilead, Ohio for both days of October 30 and 31. The attendance of yarders for this show is not expected to be abound alike previous shows.
-Canadian BYW News
2XWS Update 2 Xtreme Wrestling Syndicate (2XWS) has sent in the following statement regarding the inactivity of their federation:
The reason you guys have not seen any new footage from us in the past few months is because 2XWS is on a hiatus. Reason being is because 2 of our own; Rockwall and myself have both just graduated high school and are still warming up to our post-high school lives and we have been trying to figure out ways to keep 2XWS active and to make sure it keeps going, or maybe its just me...but I am trying at least so don’t lose all hope in us just yet! I have plans in the works about possibly holding events during the winter time at a new location and we may hold an event or two soon.
Stay golden people! -Derek Keith
-American BYW News
EWA’s Recent Uprising Elite Wrestling Association (EWA) has been moving up and noticeably rising further to prominence in relation to backyard wrestling federations on the northeastern coast. Started in 2008, EWA eventually joined GBYWN is 2009 and made themselves known to the alliance gradually stepping up the ranks of the community and featured much heavily on webcast program, Backyard Wrestling Weekly. EWA has been blowing up and getting many outside talent come in from parts of the US and perform for their organized shows. On August 14, they held their very first pro ring show called EWA Summer Sizzler. The federation is currently doing deals with 2KW to feature some of their talent at their recorded events.
NSW Transition Non Stop Wrestling (NSW) of Bronx, New York makes a successful transition from the park to a ring federation as of their No More Games 2 event on August 29 at the Ace Pro Arena in Union City, New Jersey. NSW has been running park shows in New York since its inception in 2002, and with seeing 2KW make the switch as well as also having their own aspirations, the federation felt it was time to start stepping up. President Bella Cross made a statement on her Facebook account thanking the talent and fans.
JWA III Further Delayed Jersey Wrestling Allstars III was inevitably delayed yet again with its recent considered date of occurrence on September 5. The chances of the JWA supershow happening has continued to see strokes of bad luck since its original June 5 planning. It is not known when the show will finally get the green light and transpire, but if and whenever it does, it is looking that EWA will likely host it.
BWA/FWA Ends/Birthdaypalooza Bridgeview Wrestling Association (BWA) in conjunction with Freelance Wrestling Alliance held its final event BWA/FWA Our Final Goodbye on September 5 and 6. This was legitimately the federation’s final event which saw Shooter retire from the backyard wrestling world. After 6 matches involving championship titles even from GBYWN, the event ended with a final “BWA” chant. For fun and games, BWA/FWA put the open invitation out for their non-wrestling event Birthdaypalooza in Justice, Illinois in November, promoted as a birthday rave party for some of its wrestlers.
2KW Hits 1,000,000 Views/Next Event Recently, one of the staple New York backyard wrestling federations and the indy-approaching 2KW Wrestling hit the 1,000,000 views mark in combined overall video views on YouTube. For a few years, 2KW has been one of the exceeding backyard federations showcasing upscale quality and exhilarating entertainment after acquiring a YouTube account in 2006. This achievement has only been justified with the hard work, effort, and sacrifices put forth by the 2KW crew. The next event from 2KW is in the planning mode to be held on October 2. For this event, 2KW executives are trying to settle a deal with Double D to make an appearance at the show. The name of the event is currently unannounced.
XBW Reunion DVD Xtreme Backyard Wrestling of Maryland (XBW) has launched their long-awaited and anticipated release called the XBW Reunion DVD. XBW was a 1999 founded, 9-year running backyard wrestling federation based between Glen Burnie and Baltimore, Maryland with a video library of 4 seasons (though having 5 in total) capturing most of the eras of the federation and each of the wrestlers from their youth following the legitimate death of the founder, Nemesis, to their early 20’s through the federation’s storylines, feuds, events, and matches. XBW was also for a short time aligned with GBYWN in 2007. Some of their key players included Ryan Stevens, Deathwarrent, The Reaper, Reilly Davidson, War, Jesse James, Shawn Hartless, Chris Phoenix, and Kavian. The DVD features their reunion event held in spring 2009 as well as rare footage, in-depth interviews and much more. Click here if interested in checking out and buying a copy.
-Australian BYW News
REPOST: Australian Backyard Week The Australian circuit is planning for AusBYWeek to take place in late December. The events would be LCWA South Coast Fest on 16&17, a one day break on the 18, XAW Jobfest on the 19, a one take break on the 20, and IYHWA The Annual 2 on the 21&22. Talks about a Heatfest 2011 supershow event are also underway.
GBYWN Australian Title Controversy It was reported here last month that the merger in May between the AWGP Smashmouth Title and the GBYWN Australian Heavyweight Title to create the Global Championship was voided and the Australian Title was reactivated and won by ICWS’ Tazer on July 25 as the title was switched from Australian Wrestling Grand Prix (AWGP) to be represented by Inner City Wrestling Syndicate (ICWS). Moreover, the Australian Title was actually merged with the AWGP International Title. In further stating, confusion erupted between GBYWN, ICWS and AWGP over the title, its activity, and which federation was its main representative with ICWS claiming the title to their own promotion, thus, Rad Hazard issued the title back to AWGP. In a counter act, ICWS will have their ICWS Title recognized to the global alliance as the GBYWN West Australian Regional Championship.
