Oh look, it's Tuesday. This week's band is a personal favorite who really got me more into the indie scene while I was in high school. They're called Action Action. With their synthesizer sound these guys sound straight out of the 80's and remind me a lot of Echo and the Bunnymen. Their music is just super catchy and enjoyable to listen, like an updated version of new wave mixed with indie rock goodness. Unfortunately after two solid albums they kind of disappeared into obscurity until they released their independent album this year which I haven't gotten to listen to yet, but I can safely recommend each of their first two albums. Now onto the music.

OK, welcome back me. Has it really been a week already? This week's band of the week isn't really a band, but rather a singer-songwriter and one that I'm totally enamored with. Her name is Regina Spektor. She is absolutely amazing. Her lyrics are very catchy and simple but at the same time very deep and easy to relate to and her voice is just fantastic. Also, none of her songs really sound the same, which I find especially impressive for this type of music since there's a limit to really what you can do and most singer-songwriters have a style they don't deviate from but Regina isn't afraid to try different techniques and whatnot, which is something I really admire. Oh, and she's gorgeous as well. Anyway, just listen.

Regina Spektor, NICE, big fan, quite the good type of music to listen to when youre in the mood. Action Action, mehh, not a huge fan, the music was okay and the singing was meh, so i rounded down to an mehh.

I don't listen to her, but I've heard alot of her stuff and she's quite good.

An ex girlfriend of mine was a HUGE Regina Spektor fan.

OK, it's time, it's time, it's Vader time...sorry, I mean it's time for Band of the Week. This week I'm moving away from the indie stuff and going with the more post-hardcore stuff that I also enjoy. I'm sure if you're a fan of that style of music you'll know these guys but I feel like everyone should know them because they're one of my favorites in the whole genre. That band is Chiodos. They just plain rule in my opinion, no matter if the lead singer is Brandon Bolmer or Craig Owens (though I definitely prefer Craig) and the music itself has just always been fantastic. I'm kind of in a rush and I doubt anyone reads this shit anyway so let's move right to the music.

Ok, time for another change of pace this week as I'll be putting up some indie hip-hop. The guy goes by the moniker of Childish Gambino, but if you watch Community or Derrick Comedy you will know him as Donald Glover. I have to give credit to my friend Lee for introducing me to his music. Now, even though he's a comedian don't expect his raps to be comedic in nature. He's really clever though and has some great wordplay and metaphors and his flow is really fantastic. He also makes all his own beats for his songs so the dude has some talent. Enjoy.

Meh, back again for the Band of the Week, albeit a couple of days late but I don't think my one loyal reader will mind all that much haha. This weeks band hails from Australia, so I'm sure Chalis knows them, but for some reason they are largely unknown in the US and that bothers me greatly. The band is the John Butler Trio, an jam/alternative/blues-rock band and they fucking rule. John Butler is seriously one of the best guitarists I have ever heard. Enough talk, just listen.

This week's band is one that I doubt many have heard of unlike some of my more recent choices. They're a local indie/pop/everything else band called The Gay Blades. All of their songs have a different sound and they're just a very fun, infectious band that always seem to put me in a good mood. I'll use the bio from their MySpace to give a little more insight into them: "The Gay Blades are a made of magic and they are almost always on the road sending magic to new friends everywhere. It's Tuesday already. Time for my weekly responsibility to bring music to the masses...or at least the 2 people who read this thread (one more than last week!). I've been wanting to put this guy up for awhile but just haven't for whatever reason. This week's band is called Owen, and it's really just singer-songwriter Mike Kinsella, formerly of the Chicago-based indie band, American Football. He's one of those songwriters who really seems to bare his soul for his songs and it makes each song seem very personal to him and thus the listener gets a similar emotional reaction, or at least I do. They're really very moving. I don't know whether to smile or cry and I honestly mean that; the emotion is just easily heard in his voice and words. His songs are very easy to relate to and I really feel he is just a fantastic writer/composer. So here you go, enjoy.
