Seriously man, go for it. That's actually where I'm lacking in my knowledge. I do love heavier stuff and metal, but I only know more mainstream shit for the most part. I'll def read it and I'll try to open you up to some of the better indie bands haha.

I would totally be down for this and it would probably make me want to visit the site more often. I've been on such a hardcore and metal kick lately that I can't stop listening to it and downloading as much as I can. BTW the Futureheads rule, and I like them loads more than the klaxons. I've liked every futurehead song I've heard. Winter gloves should be next.

So here's a bit of a change of pace in that I'm posting a heavier band for my first band this week. If you're a metal fan you'll probably know them but I feel like not enough people know who they are so I'm gonna give them some attention in here. That band is The Human Abstract, a prog. metal band. The thing that really stands out to me personally about them is their amazing guitar work. But I won't talk too much about them, I'll just say that they fucking rule and you should check them out.

"Vela, Together We Await the Storm"

"Crossing the Rubicon"

"Harbinger"

We discussed this when you mentioned them before. These dudes know what their doing. They are getting bigger and are one of the hardest working metal bands out there right now IMO. They are one of the few metal bands out there that almost make three guitarists work. <3 this band,

Only the third vid worked for me on here, but I heard was pretty cool. I like hardcore bands where I can understand their singer. I generally dislike stuff like White Chapel because there's no complexity in the music itself (like these guys here) and it's just mindless screaming.

You just can't watch them on here because embedding is disabled. Click "Watch on Youtube" after you hit the play button and it'll play on YouTube.

Since Ian mentioned them, I decided to make my second band of this week a great indie band with a synth sound from Canada called Winter Gloves. The lead singer, Charles F, originally started writing the songs just for fun to put on his MySpace as a side project but they got such positive feedback that he decided to start an actual band. My personal favorite thing about the band, aside from the awesome sound of the music, is that they distributed their first EP solely by throwing it into the crowd at shows, which is fucking tremendous haha.

"Let Me Drive"

"Invisible" (my personal favorite song by them)

"Party People"

"Factories"

Welcome back for another band of the week, although it's a few hours late haha. The next band up is a bit experimental, a bit progressive, and a bit psychedelic, all while being an awesome indie band. They're called Portugal. The Man and they rule and are constantly putting out new music. Like, I almost don't get to appreciate how good their albums are because they put one out pretty much annually. Musically they are very good and I'm always discovering new layers to their songs each time I listen to them. Where they really shine though is in the vocal department. John Gourley is absolutely fantastic as the lead singer. Check 'em out.

"The Sun"

"How the Leopard Got Its Spots"

"Horse Warming Party"

RK, I just want to say thank you for being the one person to respond and know the awesomeness of Portugal.

As for my next band, they rule quite simply. They're called Phoenix. A lot of people I've met have no idea who they are despite the fact that they won a damn Grammy last year. Just check them out because they're one of the best alt. rock bands out there today.

"1901"

"United"

"Lisztomania/One Time Too Many" (Check this one out for sure, it's amazing. The second song is my favorite song by this band.)

It's that time again...well the time was yesterday but Halo: Reach came out so I was not near my computer to post this. Anyway, unfortunately my next band is no longer a band but they still fucking rule. Also, I would bet very few people know them. They're called Kaddisfly. They're an alt. rock band that mixes a few genres and comes off a bit experimental but they are really really good. Their sound reminds me of the band Dredg (if you've heard of them) mixed with Incubus. I've been listening to them for a few years now ever since my roommate introduced me to their music while away at college. Enjoy.

Oh, and the things in parentheses after the song titles are actually a part of the title. These songs were off an album called "Set Sail the Prairie" and to quote their Wiki, "Each song represents both a month of the year and a specific location in the northern hemisphere." Pretty cool idea imo.

"Empire (Noyabr')"

"Campfire (Junio)"

"Harbor (Agosto)"

"New Moon Over Swift Water"

It's that time again. After taking last Friday off from lack of a band to choose and overall business, the Band of the Week returns to it's usual day and time haha.

In honor of the fact that I'm going to see them for the second time tomorrow night, the band for today is Murder By Death. If you haven't ever heard of Murder By Death then you are missing out. They're this crazy mix of indie rock and a bit of Johnny Cash with a cello thrown in for good measure. They've put out 4 almost concept albums with themes ranging from the devil to zombies to sin and punishment and when listened to in full, their albums almost lay out a full story. And their latest album, "Good Morning Magpie" was written after the lead singer spent a month or so out in the woods with nothing but his guitar and a little shack to live in. They're one of those rare bands that are a million times better live than recorded and they have amazing energy in concert. Seriously, check them out, they're pretty amazing and very one-of-a-kind to say the least.

"Until Morale Improves, The Beatings Will Continue"

"Brother"

"Fuego!"

"Foxglove"

BONUS SONG
"Ball & Chain" (This version is fucking amazing imo)
