| Today I attempted to dispute a copyright claim made by WMG (though they obviously had rights to the song) by going through the system YouTube provides for disputing claims and pasting this act from 1976:
"Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use."
I'm not sure if this really did do the trick or if YouTube just buckles at any copyright dispute, but I do know the video is no longer muted. So yippee. I think I'll go through our videos to dispute other claims.
If you're wondering where I got the quote, it was put in the description of an upload of the first Undertaker-Michaels Wrestlemania 26 video package. |
