PostSubject: How to make Raw a watchable show   Tue Mar 09, 2010 9:08 pm

I am extremely bored. Being that I'm on a wrestling board, lets discuss wrestling.

Alright, so the Raw product is pretty much embarrassing at the moment. Every show focuses more on the special guest hosts, setting up main event feuds, and bullshit squash matches. I really don't remember the last time I can say "that match on raw was really good". The wrestling aspect just makes no sense. Its like the creative team is retarded. The focus is put completely on the main event scene, with the exception of the unified tag title scene (which is completely fucked up by the way, but its another discussion for another time). There are countless mid carders that are extremely talented, but sometimes dont even make it on the show. Id rather see Chavo vs. Bourne for no reason than a hornswoggle segment.

So my question is, what can the Raw creative team do to make Raw a better show? Discuss

Cena needs less airtime, a promo and a match should be enough to get his point across each week. Not multiple promos and a match that lasts longer than all of the others put together.

Longer matches. Those MiTB matches were embarrassing. Evan Bourne is amazing, but he shouldn't be squashing William Regal. That should have been a nice 5 or more minutes long and they could have cut Batista saying that he wasn't going to interfere in Cena's match. Especially since he fucking did it anyway.

I find Hornswoggle funny sometimes, but he doesn't need to constantly take up time on the show.

Ultimately, less promos, more matches.

RAW had a few good episodes in February, but they've been falling short since then. I think this:

Ultimately, less promos, more matches.

...and this:

Quote:
Every show focuses more on the special guest hosts

...sum up my thoughts well enough.

I think Raw needs to give it's mid-carders more purpose. The US Title holds no value anymore.

Triple H vs John Cena from some Raw last october before the Bragging Rights Pay Per View was a good match

understandable, but again, that was last october. sometimes even the 3 hour specials with stacked cards have a few good matches too, but thats just an occasion. It shouldnt have to be a special occasion for wrestling fans to see a decent match IMO

So was Orton vs. Triple H in a Last Man Standing match on last year commercial-free RAW. That was the beginning of the best period in the WWE for the past few years. The week before, we also had that triple threat match on draft night between CM Punk (new World Heavyweight Champion) vs. Edge vs. Jeff Hardy. After that was when Morrison made his face turn, the Punk-Hardy feud really got underway, Jericho-Mysterio came to a close leading to Ziggler's challenges, Morrison won the Intercontinental Championship on the best television match of the year, and the overall quality of the show was three times better. Oh wait, that was Smackdown.

I agree RAW would do well to push their mid-card well. They have more good mid-card wrestlers than Smackdown, they just don't implement them well at all. When MVP and The Miz had that series of great promos on RAW, I thought it would go all the way to a US Title match at Wrestlemania. But no, we have Blowmiz and Poop-Morrison in a tag title match.

Hold on a minute. Get it right. It's "Black Magic & The White Shadow." Which IMO is one of the greatest tag team names ever tbh.

I think that, no matter what anyone says, that RAW and Smakcdown will always have better ratings and more money than iMPACT. That's how the WWE works.

With that said...

There should be less special guests (maybe one every two weeks?) and have them have less ai-time and rather funny pomos and spots. Maybe we could let them set up a match or two. Unfortuantly, people will watch RAw because of the special guests, so at least it makes money.

Secondly, the matches do leave something to be desired. What the WWE should do is have one squash match (probably with a local), two good matches with the mid-carders (preferably title holders ot at least guys who know their way around the ring i.e. R-Truth, Finaly, Matt Hardy, Randy Orton) and finally the main event which doesn't always have to be with the world champ. Sure, Batista has plenty of skill, but letting other guys shine makes the entire company look better, not just one guy.

And finally, Cena. John Cena, hated by all but equally misunderstood by all (or probably more like most). Cena has lots of ability in promos and segments but slightly less ability in the ring. What the WWE should do is highlight his speaking abilities by letting him do something funny and then let him have a match. Let him be a guy who makes people laugh and can put on a great match every once and a while. They should also bring back his "Word Life", Thug, Battle rap gimmick; it would make Mondy Nights more interesting. But he's too much of a main-eventer to have a set-in-stone gimmick. Maybe DX should be more funny and take Cena's place and let him be the macho big guy face.

All in all, RAW is doing well, but they CAN do better by highlighting what they do well: Having celebrities, decent mid-card performers, and funny main eventers. But despite how much people whine, they will still make more money than you.

I don't give a shit about how much money they make. I want a good wrestling product. And if they had that, they would still make more money than me tbh.

Also, they have to pay those guest hosts. Some of the bigger names aren't cheap. Oh wait, what bigger names?
